Really hope they’re all crocked or knackered but I can see why AZ played their first team this evening, Technically with two games left after today they could catch PSV who are currently in the second of the two Champions League places available to Dutch teams. PSV have already won the Dutch cup which qualifies the winners for the Europa League, so AZ are currently in the Europa League spot. Obviously if they win the European conference league they’d qualify for the Europa League. They’re in the conference league next year even if they end up fourth. Think that’s all correct! Also think they may be feeling they’re unlikely to win on Thursday. They got really tired after about the seventieth minute last time round. Just wish we could have forced a third goal. Think we’ll be fine though. Just about.

Sadly, fkg sadly, it would not surprise me one bit if we play classic Moyesball Thursday and get knocked out.

Heaven help us if they score 1st, he will absolutely shit himself.

I think we would win this cup easily if there wasn’t the pressure of a Europa League place and the continual reminders of 43 years since our last trophy win……just play like you’re an established Premier League club….the autopsy we have is something the big clubs move on from quickly and go again until they win…..no excuses just that the club wants to win…..

I asked -
you a bit winy little girly fatigue and do you think you need some granddad sleepy time in the afternoon Bill before the game so you have lots of get up and go ?
He replied

Easy to say it's not passive but fatigue, but when we've seen the evidence most of the season it's been like that a lot.

I think the big problem was tiredness . Not us being passive no doubt Moyes told them to not do anything stupid like we did against Frankfurt as well . I just hope he rests the players tomorrow. And dosent do anything stupid . Alkmaar are playing Sunday night and looking at the Dutch league table they have more resting on it than we have against Brentford.

Manny, I think The Big Cheese is correct. Paq Man should be ok. Mind you quoting the article and paragraph, is a tad Irons of Canada for me.

I think you need 3 yellow cards for a suspension these days.

From the UEFA website (which applies to all UEFA competitions):

Can you be suspended for the Champions League final?

Yes, but only after receiving a red card. Because yellow cards expire on completion of the quarter-finals (see Article 52.04), even if a player is cautioned in both legs of a victorious semi-final tie they cannot be suspended for the final.

''Scorch - Apparently that rule has been changed and Paq Man is ok. He will be ok for the final, even if he does pick up a yellow next week. Pick up a red though and he's fucked''

Well obviously he's fucked if he gets a red, any player is. Is what you are saying def correct though, aren't the yellow cards reset at the SF stage? So you can get a yellow card in both semis and still play in the final?

Just watched the match again, very passive indeed.

Coukd have done better, we'll be more passive I fear over there.

I can't help thinking that we missed an opportunity to end the tie last night and that we may regret not doing so.

For all the talk, the players bottled it.

Antonio scored his 75th goal for us last night.

It definitely wasn't Antonio's best game but it's also no-where near his worst.

There's probably only a handful that he's played better in this season too!

Re: ⚽ West Ham v AZ Alkmaar - Official Match Thread
If Antonio gave more time to bullying the defenders (like he's capable of, after all he's a fucking huge brute of a bloke) rather than throwing himself about like a forlorn out of water salmon then he'd be a pretty troublesome player to come up against.

Jasnik 5:20 Fri May 12

Antonio admitted that wasn't his best game and like we said least he got the goal.

I was saying the same that he should go off just before he scored as he was knackered .. Ha.

I know. Its fucking embarrassing. He's terrible at looking like he got fouled. But, then again, he's generally terrible at most things these days.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v AZ Alkmaar - Official Match Thread
The noise for first ten mins and from point we equalised was immense.

After ten minutes it dropped off a bit. From when they scored to our equaliser there was close to silence for long periods.

But then the team need to give us something to shout about - they spent their whole match under Moyes orders to stand still whilst AZ passed the ball around the back.

For a first leg the atmosphere was unreal.
